Evaluation Overview

Complete hitting analysis covering contact quality, power metrics, plate discipline, and batted ball distribution for youth softball player.

Hitting Mechanics Evaluation

Detailed breakdown of swing mechanics and movement patterns.

Short, controlled stride. Front foot lands slightly open, which can cause pulling off the ball.

Gets adequate extension post-contact, but the path to contact is indirect.

Maintains a quiet head and tracks the ball well to the tee.

Player Information:

Lower Half Drive – Rear Hip

Head Stability at Contact

Extension Through the Ball

Plate Coverage – In/Out/Up/Down

Lacks significant hip-to-shoulder separation; upper and lower halves rotate too close together.

Hands cast away from the body early, creating a long, looping path to the ball.

A key area for improvement; hands get away from the body, creating a long swing.

Maintains good balance and center of gravity during rotation.

Starts in a solid, athletic position; good base.

Name: Harry

Age: 21

Height Inces: 69

Weight Lbs: 156

Bats Throws: R/R

Developmental Level: Level 6 (Collegiate/Pro)

Elite head stability; eyes remain locked on the contact point.

Back hip initiates rotation, but back foot loses connection to the ground prematurely.

Achieves a solid palm-up/palm-down position at the point of contact.

Sequence is rushed; upper body follows the lower half immediately, reducing whip effect.

Functional for this pitch height but casting will make adjusting to high/low pitches difficult.

The rotational, casting path results in less time on the pitch plane, reducing margin for error.

Swing path creates vulnerability to inside pitches and difficulty reaching the outer third with authority.

Minimal negative move limits momentum and stretch; hands have a slight hitch down.

Front knee has some flexion at contact; not a firm brace, allowing some energy to leak.

Good maintenance of posture and spine angle throughout the swing.

Barrel gets on plane with the pitch, but enters the zone from outside-in due to casting.

Summary, Scoring, and Recommendations

Overall evaluation, projection, and development plan.

Overall Summary

Strengths: Alexi exhibits elite-level head stability through contact and maintains excellent posture. These foundational strengths provide a solid base for consistency and vision.

Areas for Improvement: The primary limitations are in the kinetic sequence and hand path. A lack of load and separation leads to a rotation-dominant swing that lacks whip, and a casting hand path creates length, reducing adjustability and bat speed. Correcting the hand path to stay inside the ball is the most critical adjustment needed for the collegiate level.

Performance Scores (Based on Rubric)

Current Mechanics Rating: 55 – NCAA Division 2 / High NAIA

Projected Level of Play: 65 – NCAA Division 1 Starter

Recommended Drills

Drill #1: Connection Ball Drill

Focus: To promote a connected swing and a direct, hands-inside-the-ball path. This directly combats the casting motion.

Execution: Place a small, partially deflated ball between the bicep and torso of the front arm. Take swings off a tee, focusing on keeping the ball in place until contact.

Drill #2: Step-Back Drill

Focus: To develop a more dynamic load and feel the creation of separation between the lower and upper body.

Execution: From your normal stance, take a step backward with your rear foot as your hands load back. Then, stride forward into your swing.

Drill #3: Offset Open Hitting

Focus: To train the body to stay closed and drive the ball to the opposite field, reinforcing an inside-out swing path.

Execution: From a front toss, have the coach toss from a 45-degree angle on the batter's front side.
